The Defiance of Being Over It

It’s Friday and this pic is what my brain feels like after a week of the Donald, more incomprehensible killings, and a heat wave that has me convinced Tennessee is trying to kill me.

I’m over it.

And normally, I’d feel some deep compunction to write about the significance of these events or at least an entirely self-serving diatribe about my own week-long ruminations. But here’s where defiance kicks in. Today, at least, I just don’t give a shit.

Today, I want to laugh.

(First funny — I can’t for the life of me figure out how to resize that damn picture, so I’m just going to use this as filler to get below it.)

OKAY! The following is a list of things I’ve found particularly hilarious this week.

  1. This Sign….
Found on a wall in a bar in Birmingham, AL

2. Melania Trump plagiarizing Michelle Obama’s speech — That’s what it’s called when you use exact words from someone else’s work. I’m personally more amused by the gut-busting glee that must have been experienced by whomever discovered the, ummm, “similarities”. That snitch.

3. #nationaljunkfoodday — It’s clearly impossible to write that without the #. I’m just baffled by the motivation behind creating a day honoring junk food. Isn’t that like every day but Monday for most of us? I can’t imagine there is such a plethora of clean, whole food, Paleo addicted OCD nut jobs out there that we require a national observance so they can allow themselves a cheat day.

4. Pokemon Go — Enough said.

5. Simone Biles — Not funny, but tee tiny and cute as a button! I can’t wait to watch this woman kick some serious ass in Rio. Here’s hoping she doesn’t get Zika or leprosy at the Olympics. See, you’re laughing, and then it’s like “oh, wait…”

6. A “Bro-zilian” — While waiting for my own modest bikini wax, the young lad at the counter went in to great detail about his exhaustive search for an esthetician skilled in the art of the Brozilian. I kept a straight face (mostly) through that convo and half sprinted to my car to hit the Google machine. Let the giggling ensue…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls3y1g4OxS8.

Laugh today ya’ll. This world may be going to hell in a hand basket, but there’s room to eek a little joy out of it along the way. Happy Friday!
